Kabita Kalita joined Swastika Self Help Group and belongs from Goalpara district of Assam. Kabita had lost her father when she was just 17 years old and had the responsibility of taking care of her mother and sister. She struggled a lot at a young age and used to give tuitions to make ends meet. She took training on tailoring and started stitching clothes. Slowly, from her earnings and by taking loan from her Self Help Group, she started her cake making business after getting trained. Her cakes were in much demand in the village and her earnings started to grow more. She then decided to expand her livelihood activities and received training on pickle making, bag making and ornament making. Today she operates several businesses and earns an annual income of around 2.5 lakh.
