Lakhpati Didi Journey
Sunyana Kar, from Dubapara village under Sri Surjyagiri Gaon panchayat, is deeply rooted in her family’s traditional cane-making business. Her journey towards empowerment began when she learned about the benefits of joining a Self Help Group.
She received basic livelihood training and was granted a Revolving Fund of Rs. 15,000 and a Community Investment Fund of Rs. 50,000. She invested these funds in her sital pati business, expanding her product line to include items like caps, bags, and handbags, beyond the traditional sital pati mats. Higher authorities also trained and advised her to diversify her cane products to increase her income.
Her business growth was further accelerated by a bank loan of Rs. 50,000, which she used to purchase two sewing machines, enhancing her production capacity. With each financial boost, Sunyana’s enterprise flourished. She now earns an impressive monthly income ranging from Rs. 12,500 to Rs. 13,000 by marketing her diverse range of products across various markets.
Despite facing initial challenges, she honed her craft, successfully blending tradition with innovation. Her hard work and creativity transformed her venture into a thriving business, empowering local artisans, and preserving cultural heritage.
