Tawheeda Bano is a member of the “Star Self Help Group” under the Hayaat Cluster in Nowbugh village, Budgam District. She has transformed her life remarkably through the UMEED scheme of the Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihoods Mission. Before joining UMEED, she led a challenging life, struggling with domestic work and financial constraints while pursuing her studies through distance education.
Her journey to empowerment began when she learned about the UMEED scheme and functioning of Self Help Groups. Joining the Self Help Group brought significant changes to her life. Despite facing criticism and lack of financial support, her determination led her to start a poultry farm in her village. Her persistence paid off as her poultry venture expanded from a modest start to a thriving business with over 10,000 chickens.
With the assistance of Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihoods Mission, she not only achieved financial stability but also expanded her business. She opened another poultry farm through various loans, along with her investment. Her business now supplies chickens within and outside her district, and she owns a vehicle for transportation.
She earns over Rs. 30,000/- per month, significantly improving her family’s life. She has become a role model in her village, changing perceptions about women’s capabilities and earning respect and recognition for her opinions and achievements.
