Mrs. Bhavani, a housewife with very few resources and low income, began her journey as a member of the Jayam Self Help Group. Despite her ambition and determination, she faced financial constraints that prevented her from starting any livelihood activity. However, after participating in a livestock training organized by the Self-Help Group at Veterinary college, River, Puducherry she learned about poultry farming. Encouraged by this knowledge, she launched her own poultry business. She invested in poultry farming from various sources, including the Revolving Fund, Community Investment Fund of Rs. 90,000, and her personal savings, to purchase the chicks. She could purchase around 500 chicks of Kadaknath and local breeds (Siruvedi and Peruvedi) along with feed with an amount of Rs. 72,500. After rearing them for about a few months, she has successfully sold around 400 adult birds. She feels so happy when anyone praises her work after seeing her business.. She felt that Self Help Groups and Producer Groups came as a god-sent blessing in her life. Moreover, her determination, perseverance, and entrepreneurial spirit have led to a monthly income of Rs. 45,000.
