Lakhpati Didi Journey :
Due to the ongoing economic struggles, Geetabai had to work alongside her husband as a daily labourer, earning just enough to sustain their household.
Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-State Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) began operations in the Devsar block, marking a turning point in Geetabai’s life. Through this initiative, she gained a deep understanding of the importance of self-help groups and other essential concepts.
Elderly and widowed women had to travel to Devsar to withdraw their pension, which took up an entire day due to the lack of transportation. This situation deeply moved her, prompting her to share her concerns with the officials of the Livelihood Mission. As they suggested, she started a kiosk bank using a loan from the self-help group.
She secured a loan of Rs. 30,000 from the self-help group and village organization to set up the kiosk bank. Today, her annual income from this venture exceeds Rs. 1.5 lakh. In addition to running the kiosk bank, Geetabai has also started vegetable farming. The support she received from the Livelihood Mission’s group enabled her to reach her current position of stability and success.
