Lakhpati Didi Journey
Itikala Nagarani and her husband Veeranna struggled to make ends meet as daily laborers located 6 km away from Issipet mandal. Despite working hard every day, they earned only Rs. 8,500/- per month, making it difficult to provide good clothes, education, and food for their two daughters.
However, their lives changed when they became part of the Women’s Self Help Group (SHG) named Laxmi and took a Bank Linkage loan of up to Rs. 4 lakhs in the name of the community and started several income-generating activities.
She applied to the Village Organization to buy a paper plates machine, they manufactured 20,000 paper plates per month and sold them to grocery shop owners and for various auspicious works. As their production increased, they were able to supply up to 30,000 paper plates per month and expanded their market to nearby mandals.
The intervention had a significant impact on the lives of group members. Instead of being daily laborers, they became entrepreneurs and created employment opportunities for others. Their standard of living improved, and they were able to give their children higher education. They now earn Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month, depending on the season.
