Lakhpati Didi Journey
Smt. June Violet J. Sangma saw opportunity where others saw waste. As a contractual teacher, she struggled to make ends meet, but what troubled her more was the sight of ripe mangoes, jackfruits, guavas, oranges, and star fruits going unused in her village. Determined to create value from these abundant resources, she sought a way to turn them into something meaningful. Her journey took a new turn when she joined the Pringprang Aski Self-Help Group under the Tengkame Cluster Level Federation. With training in food processing from the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), she learned to make organic homemade pickles, squashes, juices, candies, and chips. Taking an initial loan of ₹28,000, she started a small unit but soon expanded, even completing a certification course in winemaking. Demand for her products grew, especially in Garo Hills, prompting her to take another Rs. 80,000 loan to scale up. Today, June supplies markets across Meghalaya, from Nongstoin to Baghmara. Her annual income has now risen to Rs. 3 lakhs, giving her financial independence and enabling her to uplift other women in her community through her thriving enterprise.
