Lakhpati Didi Journey :
Daya, a resident of Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh, has overcome physical challenges to transform her life and her family’s circumstances. Born with a physical disability which made her walking impossible, Daya did not let her condition dictate her future. Despite only having completed her education up to the 8th grade due to her family’s weak financial situation.
Daya joined the Saraswati Aajeevika Self Help Group, which marked the beginning of her journey towards financial independence. She actively participated in group meetings and took on the role of Secretary, which gave her the confidence to speak up and take charge of her life. To improve her financial situation, Daya took a loan of ₹7,500 from the group’s RF fund to start a general shop business. She took an additional fund of ₹50,000, which allowed her to expand her business and purchase a sewing machine for tailoring. Both activities were successful, and she began earning ₹600-700 per day.
Recognizing the potential of her business, Daya availed a personal loan of ₹1,00,000 through the Mudra Loan scheme. With this, she expanded her grocery business and added an ice cream and cold drinks centre. Her monthly income is around ₹30,000 from multiple livelihood activities.
Her journey from being dependent on her family to becoming a significant contributor to the household income has made her a role model in her community.
