Mrs. Malathi was a small-scale entrepreneur struggling to make ends meet. She stitches cotton bags on a small scale but wanted to diversify her income streams. She encountered challenges, particularly with marketing. Beyond her own success, Malathi has become a beacon of empowerment for her community. She has provided livelihood opportunities to four additional households from her self-help group members, and they started a joint liability group to extend their business. Then, five members started a tailoring unit with the support of BDO, Ariyankuppam, under NRLM. Her business generates a personal income of Rs. 25,000/- per month. Malathi’s journey is a testament to the power of leadership, community support, and the opportunities provided through self-help groups and government schemes. Her efforts have not only uplifted her own family but have also created a ripple effect of empowerment in her community.
