The One Gram Panchayat – One BC Sakhi initiative by the National Rural Livelihood Mission has played a crucial role in these advancements.
The Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihoods Mission (USRLM) has undertaken the “One Gram Panchayat-One BC Sakhi” initiative. One exemplary BC Sakhi is Manju Bistania, whose transformation changed her life when she was selected for the BC Sakhi by USRLM. After passing the IIBF certification training facilitated by both the Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihoods Mission (USRLM) and the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSeTI). She started offering Business Correspondent (BCS) services to her local community and neighboring residents. In the absence of multiple banking options in her vicinity and coupled with the challenging geographical terrain, the banking needs of the population remained unmet. To address this gap, Manju Bistania uses her vehicle, she reaches out to remote areas, especially assisting the elderly and physically challenged individuals.
She is providing her services to seven villages and catering to the financial needs of 1,120 households. On average, she conducts monthly transactions of more than Rs. 60 lakhs. Her monthly income is Rs. 15000 to Rs. 18000.
