Lakhpati Didi Journey

Mrs. Nithya belongs to a marginal farmer family, and her husband is a daily wage worker. She is an independent, hardworking, and ambitious woman who wants to do something not only for herself but also for her society with free thinking and a positive approach, and has made a name for herself in the field of poultry rearing practices. She attended the poultry production and management training organized at the Block Development Office, Villiyanur, where she received relevant information about the brooding, feeding, housing, establishment of a hatchery unit, and prevention of disease. She got Community Investment Fund (CIF) loans, and through bank linkage, she got Self-Help Group and JLG loans and bought 45-day-old 50 Kadakanath and country chicks. She is a poultry entrepreneur and started her business selling Kadakanath & country chick eggs under the brand name of NEITAHL. She is the owner of a mini hatchery unit that comprises a fully automatic incubator with 105 eggs, and she sells day-old chicks for her sustainable livelihood. Currently, Mrs. Nithya has 70 poultry birds and has become a successful entrepreneur by producing significant eggs, which she sells to local vendors and consumers in her village itself, and generates an income of Rs 6000/- per month. She is also getting an additional income of Rs. 4000/- each. Her farm became a model for other poultry entrepreneurs to adopt similar technologies and motivated other farmers to reach the height of the peak. At present, she is engaged as a non-farm livelihood cadre at her panchayat-level federation.
