Padumi Kardong, a resident of Tokowbari village in the district of Biswanath, Assam, transformed her life through the Ramdhenu Self Help Group. With support from National Rural Livelihood Mission, including a Revolving Fund of Rs. 25,000 and Community Investment Fund of Rs. 50,000 and a bank loan of Rs. 3 lakh Padumi established a successful rice mill. Subsequently, she expanded her business by acquiring a turmeric powder machine, atta chakki, and a mustard oil machine through NRETP project loans of Rs. 3 Lakh. Additionally, she ventured into layer hen rearing and fish farming. Padumi’s dedication and efforts enabled her to supply products to Biswanath and Lakhimpur districts, resulting in an impressive yearly income of Rs. 23 lakhs and a profit of Rs. 4 lakhs. Her success exemplifies the positive impact of Self Help Groups and National Rural Livelihood Mission initiatives on rural entrepreneurship.
