Mrs. Pooranam, who had taken full responsibility for her family when her husband was not well. The concept of the self-help group model enlightened her life, and she joined in Baratham Self Help Group as a leader of maintaining twelve members. She has undergone six days of training and a day exposure visit on SKILL DEVELOPMENT OF GOAT KEEPERS by NABARD at Veterinary College, RIVER, Puducherry. She was successfully trained in both theoretical and practical aspects aimed at valuing the role and importance of goat rearing in economic upliftment. The training provided her motivation to adopt all the practices judiciously as advised and see herself as the result of good efforts. She started goat rearing by getting loans from PLF. Now she becomes a goat farmer currently maintaining 45 goats which improved her livelihood economically and socially. Her income from goat rearing activities increased from Rs. 40,000 per year to Rs. 150,000 per year.
She received a Pudhumai pen award from Honourable Lieutenant Governor Madam. Thus, by adopting goat rearing activity efficiently Mrs. Pooranam has produced a Peerless example of goat farmer and continuous effort is underway.
