Punita Devi’s journey from a housewife to a successful entrepreneur is a remarkable example of empowerment. Punita Devi joined the Gayatri Self Help Group and worked on raising awareness about cleanliness and hygiene among women in various villages.
She was sent as a Community Resource Person (CRP) to various blocks in Madhubani, she also worked on promoting the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and was part of a 45-day training program in Uttar Pradesh, earning Rs. 54,000 for her efforts in promoting SHG benefits to women. Punita took loan of Rs. 55,000 from her SHG to set up the necessary infrastructure and buy earthworms for vermicomposting. With hard work and perseverance, she started producing organic fertilizer, selling it at Rs.10 per kg. In the last year, they sold approximately 300 quintals of organic fertilizer, which helped them pay off their debts and stabilize their finances.
Today, their dairy farm is flourishing with eight cows, six of which are productive, yielding around 40 liters of milk daily. This milk is sold at Rs. 40 per liter, generating a daily income of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200 after expenses. With the support of her family, She now earns between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month.
