S. Brema is an ambitious woman who wants to lead her life without depending on others. She first came to know about vermicomposting through KVK, Karaikal. She was very surprised to see that the utilization of dung and waste of dairy in different forms triggered her to make natural manure, which is very cheap and safe for crops. Also, she has undergone training at KVK and started the production unit. To promote this unit successfully, she needs funding, which she accessed from PBGB, Karaikal. She started to work on her project on converting the dung and waste materials of dairy into useful manure. Slowly, she developed an interest and made two pits for production purposes. She procured raw materials such as earthworms for the production of vermicompost and incurred an amount of Rs 5,000 per month. Apart from the vermicompost production, she is involved in dairying activities with two milking animals. She is also involved in agricultural activities such as cultivating cotton and pulses on five acres of land. From the agriculture sector and cotton cultivation, she earns an amount of Rs two lakh per year. The total income from all farm livelihood activities is Rs 3.34 lakhs. This story of her, a resilient woman, not only taking control of her life but also lends a helping hand to promote organic India by contributing productivity to the country which promotes globalization for future generations.
