Somaina Brahma, a resident of kokrajhar district, joined Jwngma Self Help Group. Initially trained in piggery at RSETI Kokrajhar, she started with basic resources but a strong will to succeed. With the financial assistance from Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, including a Revolving Fund of Rs. 15,000 and Community Investment Fund of Rs. 50,000, she launched her piggery with just a few piglets.
This financial backing allowed Somaina to purchase more piglets, better equipment, and eventually grow her farm into a major operation. She was also chosen as a ‘Pashu Sakhi,’ a role in which she guides other community members in animal husbandry, enhancing her status in the village and empowering her to lead community projects. Her piggery was producing at a much larger scale, significantly increasing her income and making her a respected businesswoman in the area.
Today, she not only supports her family through her thriving piggery but also contributes to her community’s economy. Her annual income now reaches nearly Rs. 2 lakh.
