Smt. Sumitra Chauhan, a resident of Mairana village in the Purola block of Uttarkashi district, is a remarkable example of determination and success. A member of the Durga Samuh Self Help Group, her story is a testament to how the support of a community can transform lives.
Smt. Sumitra Chauhan was a farmer and a shopkeeper, but her income was not sustainable. Seeking a better future, She took a Community Investment Fund (CIF) loan of Rs. 55,000/- from her Self-Help Group to establish her own apple nursery. The ownership of the Apple nursery resulted in an additional yearly income of around Rs. 2 lakhs, complementing the Rs. 10,000/- earned from vegetable farming and Rs. 2,000/- from the Atta Chakki. In her village, She emerged as a beacon of inspiration for other women. The income generated from the apple nursery, vegetable farming, and Atta Chakki has significantly improved her family’s economic condition.
Her success story has inspired many other women in her village to join Self Help Groups and pursue their own paths to financial independence.
