Lakhpati Didi Journey
Her journey into the tourism sector began with her involvement in the Ladakh Rural Livelihoods Mission (LRLM), a program designed to enhance the economic prospects of rural communities. The mission provided her with financial assistance upto 10 lakhs from Cluster Level Federation and also equipped her with the skills and confidence needed to start her own homestay business. Tsering was not just learning to host guests; she was learning to create memorable experiences rooted in Ladakhi culture and tradition.
Armed with new skills and a vision, She established her homestay in Matho. Her home, characterized by traditional Ladakhi architecture and decor, became a haven for tourists seeking an authentic experience. She meticulously ensured that every aspect of her homestay reflected the local culture. From Home stay she is able to earn Rs. 1,50,000 to Rs. 2,50,000 lakh per annum.
Running a homestay was not without its challenges. The harsh climate of Ladakh, coupled with the remote location of Matho, presented logistical difficulties. However, Tsering’s determination and the support from LRLM helped her navigate these challenges. She actively participated in community meetings and workshops organized by LRLM, where she could share her experiences and learn from others. Her homestay became a model for others, inspiring more villagers to explore opportunities in the tourism sector.
