Mrs. Valliammai was a small-scale entrepreneur struggling to make ends meet. She produces millets-based products but wanted to diversify her income streams. She has encountered challenges, particularly with marketing. Her life took a significant turn when she became a founding member of the Malarkodi Self Help Group. Joining the Group opened doors to various interventions facilitated by NRLM. Training sessions on processing, packaging and labelling at NIFTEM, Further She enhanced her ability to showcase her products effectively in the market. She had availed CIF loan of Rs. 50,000. With these new found skills and resources, her annual income surged to Rs. 1.85 Lakh. Her success demonstrates the potential of women led to entrepreneurship in rural areas. Her processing unit created a sustainable income source, improved her livelihood and inspired other women also in her village. Other farmers of the village are being encouraged to take up millet processing units as their livelihood activity to improve their standard of life and income. They will also be made aware about the nutritious values of millets, with low input requirement, climate resilience and short production cycles.
