Lakhpati Didi Journey
Smt. Yasmeen Tariq, a resident of Khanmoh village in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, is a powerful example of how resilience and determination can change lives. A BA graduate and mother of three daughters, Yasmeen faced financial struggles as her husband’s income from construction work barely met their needs. She joined the Dilshad Self-Help Group under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), setting her on a transformative journey toward financial independence. Yasmeen began with walnut farming, utilizing Kashmir’s ideal climate. With training from KVK-SKUAST on grafting and post-harvest techniques, she doubled her yield. Support from her Cluster Level Federation, Village Organization, and Group savings enabled her to invest in quality saplings and storage. Market linkages with traders secured better prices, boosting her income. She set up a high-tech poly-house under NRLM’s convergence with HADP, growing high-value vegetables year-round. Yasmeen also ventured into saffron cultivation and became a key member of the Kong posh Producer Group, securing funds to expand their dehydrated vegetable and pickle business. Today, Yasmeen earns over Rs. 3 lakhs annually, a significant increase from her earlier income.
