Lakhpati Didi Journey
Athrongla is the secretary of Kokri Self Help Group formed in the year 2018 in Kiphire District of Nagaland. Athrongla’s husband passed away leaving her a widow with four children, three daughters and a son. She was suddenly thrust with the responsibility of taking care of the family.
However, ever since becoming part of a Self Help Group, the loans that she received through various funds under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission has helped her to meet her basic needs and she has more confidence availing loans at low interest rate. Today she sends all her children to school in Kiphire town. To further increase her income, she has started taking up Income Generating Activities like weaving and bean cultivation. Her income is around Rs. 11000/- per month.
She feels that the major benefit associated with Self Help Group membership is the strength that the women have as a group. They motivate each other and help the needy and they can achieve so much more as a group than as individuals. She says that if women are organized and made aware of their potential they can build a better society.
