Nagavalli P found herself navigating a difficult economic transition. As rapid urbanization and new SIPCOT industrial estates expanded into her surrounding villages, the region’s traditional agriculture began to sharply decline.
A breakthrough arrived her life, when the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (TNSRLM) introduced a localized Cattle Rearing Cluster. Designed to empower rural women through structured, integrated farming models, the cluster was formed with 20 Group members. Nagavalli eagerly joined as a key beneficiary through her Kungumapoo Self Help Group.
To ensure a highly sustainable livelihood model, she was sanctioned a comprehensive and well-planned loan of Rs. 1.60 Lakh.
With two healthy cows and a secure shed, Nagavalli successfully established a steady milk yield, instantly generating a reliable monthly income of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000. Showing remarkable entrepreneurial spirit, she is already planning her next phase of business expansion. She intends to introduce value addition to her dairy operations by utilizing a cream separator machine to process her milk into ghee, which will significantly maximize her profit margins.
Today, Nagavalli stands as a highly successful model of rural empowerment. Earning an income on par with the younger women travelling to distant factory jobs.
