The focus is on better management of livestock including ruminants, non-ruminants and poultry birds through proper housing, improved feeding, and preventive animal health care facilities. To build economy of scale, cluster approach for livestock interventions is adopted by the women farmers. The areas of interventions cover Breed and Breeding management, general management, feed & fodder management and health management by adopting improved practices and newer technologies.

The extension support services are made available at the doorstep through the dedicated community cadre called Pashu Sakhi to provide household-level handholding support to the women farmers 24×7.

The Pashu Sakhi is also recognized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to act as A-HELP (Accredited Agent for Health and Extension of Livestock Production) and support the implementation of the schemes of the department.

For select commodities like Milk, animal feed, Egg, goat etc., large women-owned Producer Enterprises supporting the mahila kisan promoted across the country enabling them to get better market share for their produce.

Various guidelines and advisories on goat rearing, poultry, piggery, duck rearing, fishery, dairy have been issued by the Ministry to support the field functionaries.
