Lakhpati Didi Journey :

Genda Bai, from Atarikheda village in Vidisha district, started her journey in self-employment with a small-scale clothing business alongside her husband. Before joining the Self-Help Group, she was a homemaker, and her husband sold ready-made clothing at weekly markets. Their income was limited to Rs. 5,000 per month, which was insufficient to meet the needs of their five-member family. Genda Bai joined the Keshav Self-Help Group and secured her first loan of Rs. 22,000 to expand the clothing business. A second loan of Rs. 40,000 allowed them to diversify into women’s, men’s, and kids’ wear, sourcing clothes from major cities. Today, their shop holds a stock worth Rs. 3.5 lakhs and their monthly income has increased to Rs. 15,000. Genda Bai is now able to repay the Self-Help Group regularly and aims to provide a better education for her child. She believes that Self-Help Groups empower women, improve livelihoods and foster social change, bringing her financial independence and a better standard of living.
