Rekha Yadav belongs to Khad Bhadiya Gram Panchayat and Kalyanpur Kevat Pure Dulhin village of Ayodhya district in Uttar Pradesh. She was married in her early twenties and soon after marriage, she completed her graduation. She is the only educated woman in her family and always wanted to make her own identity and break the shackle of socially constructed gender biases.
When she heard about the Bank Correspondent Sakhi opportunity, she instantly applied for it. Later, she got the training for banking related activities and got certification. Her efforts fell into place, when she did her first transaction through her BC device and earned an amount of Rs. 1,000/- in the first month and gradually understood the importance of business location to increase customer footfall. Soon she rented a shop near the gram panchayat office and started running her business in one location.
She earns approximately ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 per month by handling transactions worth ₹1 crore monthly. She also provides doorstep service that has helped her to build her reputation in the nearby villages.
