Joining the Lakshmi Self-Help Group by Rukhma Bai, things began to change. The members in the village no longer needed to migrate in search of work. Now, they are all engaged in income-generating activities within the village. The income generated through these activities is sufficient to cover their family’s expenses, including their children’s education. This has also improved their social standing in the community.
Rukhma herself has taken loans of Rs. 86,000 from the village organization and Rs. 90,000 from the bank to run a sanitary napkin repacking unit and a general store. Through these ventures, she now earns between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 18,000 per month.
