Before joining the self-help group Vanmala Pethe’s family struggled financially. While she attempted to run a small clothing business, a lack of capital hindered her progress. The family’s financial hardships also strained their social relationships, as community members distanced themselves, fearing she might ask for loans. After joining the Sharda Self-Help Group under the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, Vanmala was able to secure funds and invest in expanding her business. She now not only runs her clothing shop efficiently but has also ventured into making papads and cakes. With the support of her Self-Help Group, Vanmala’s daily earnings have grown to about Rs. 600, allowing her to repay loans with interest regularly.
